Why You’ll Love These Sliders

What Makes These Different from Regular Chicken Sliders

You may have had chicken sliders layered on buns with mayo and pepper — but this version strips it back to the essentials making it naturally gluten free:

This isn’t just a twist — it’s a smarter way to enjoy all those classic chicken cordon bleu parts without the bread overload.

Ingredients

How to Assemble the Best Chicken Cordon Bleu Sliders

Shredded chicken for the Easy Gluten Free Cordon Bleu Sliders.

Cook your chicken by boiling or in the instant pot. See the recipe card for instructions on how to cook the chicken easily in the instant pot.

You could also purchase some rotisserie chicken and shred it for this recipe. I prefer to make the shredded chicken myself, so I have the leftover juices and broth to keep the chicken tender.

Lightly spray or grease a baking dish or cast-iron skillet.

Cut your Canadian bacon slice in half if they are not a circle shape and place in a single layer on your baking dish or skillet.

Lay down a 1/4 slice of Swiss Cheese then spoon the shredded chicken evenly over each slice.

Season the shredded chicken with some seasoning or a squirt of Dijon mustard for traditional flavor.

Next, add another 1/4 slice of Swiss cheese right on top of the chicken layer.

Then, cover with another slice of Canadian bacon —which serves as your “top buns.”

Slide the assembled dish into the oven and follow the baking instructions below.

Bake until the cheese is melted and everything is hot and bubbly. If you want an extra golden top, broil for 1-2 minutes at the end.

Let the sliders rest briefly so the cheese sets just enough to make them easy to eat as the cheese helps hold them together.

What to Serve with These Sliders

These are hearty enough to stand on their own, but pairing them with lighter sides makes it a complete meal:

And of course — perfect for game day — they pair beautifully with chips, dips, or a veggie tray.

Tips, Substitutions and FAQs

Are these sliders actually gluten free? Yes! There is no bread, no sweet Hawaiian rolls, and no breading — just proteins, cheese, and sauce.

Can I use a regular slice of ham instead of Canadian bacon? You can use deli ham or ham slices, but Canadian bacon holds up best as a “bun.” Thin ham may not support the filling as well unless it is thickly cut.

Can I use chicken tenders or chicken fingers? Yes, but shred or chop them so they mimic shredded chicken in recipe. This is the best way to ensure the Swiss cheese melts into it, so they hold together.

What if I don’t like Swiss cheese? Gruyère, provolone, or mozzarella all melt beautifully — but Swiss gives the classic cordon bleu flavor.

Can I make these spicy? Absolutely — add paprika, cayenne, or even hot honey in the creamy sauce for a little heat.

How do I store leftovers? In an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days. Reheat in the oven or microwave.

Will the sliders fall apart without buns? No — the Canadian bacon holds them together beautifully, even without bottom buns or top buns.

Can I add a topping like poppy seed? Yes! A light sprinkle of poppy seed on top before baking adds visual appeal and is a classic nod to slider style when they usually put it on top of the buns.

Are these good for parties? Perfect for game day, potlucks, or even a casual dinner party.

Can I double the recipe? Yes — just use a larger baking dish and increase bake time slightly.

These gluten-free chicken cordon bleu sliders are a standout recipe — easy, delicious, adaptable, and perfect for weeknights or entertaining. They deliver all the good stuff you expect from a classic dish with none of the fuss.

From savory layers of Swiss cheese, juicy shredded chicken, and creamy Dijon sauce to the clever breadless “bun” of uncured Canadian bacon,” this dish proves you can reinvent tradition and still keep it comforting, satisfying, and downright delicious.
