Let’s dive into the world of air frying and discover the secrets to mouthwatering, juicy chicken tenders made fresh and reheated!

What you will need to make Air Fryer Chicken Tenders

Ingredients needed for air fryer keto chicken strips recipe.
  • Chicken Tenders, or Stripped Skinless Chicken Breasts
  • Crushed Pork Rinds
  • Finely Ground Almond Flour or Coconut Flour
  • Sea Salt
  • Ground Black Pepper
  • Eggs
  • 3 Bowls
  • Enhance the flour step with different spices like cayenne pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and Italian seasoning.

Let’s make some Crunchy Chicken Tenders

The key to the best crispy chicken tenders where the coating stays on and does not fall off is in the technique.

This recipe is my favorite way to make the most delicious chicken tenders my entire house of chicken strip lovers enjoys!

Extra crispy chicken strips draining on a paper towel

Begin by setting up a batter station with three bowls lined up. This is an easy way to make things move along smoother without a big mess.

The first bowl will have your flour you chose, almond or coconut mixed with the salt and pepper. I also like adding in paprika or chili powder for extra flavor. The second bowl will have your whisked eggs. The third bowl will have your pork rinds.

The first dunk is in the flour mixture.

Make sure you coat every bit of the chicken tender before moving on. Now dunk it in the egg mixture, rotating it so both sides are coated.

Finally dip it in the pork rind mixture and also sprinkle some on top of the chicken tender.

Press down lightly to help the pork rind crumbs adhere.

Now lay them on a wire rack to dry a bit.

This helps the breading stick and not come off when they cook.

Now get out your air fryer basket and spray with some cooking spray or brush with oil.

If you do not have a basket on your model then place a wire rack on one of the pans.

Now lay your breaded chicken strips onto the basket or wire rack.

Spray them with additional cooking spray on the top to help the browning and crisping up of the coating.

Set your air fryer to a medium heat of 350F and air fry for 7 minutes.

Pull out the basket or rack and flip each chicken strip over and continue air frying at 350F for 7 more minutes.

The amount of time will depend on the thickness of your chicken strips or tenders. If you find that the thicker parts are not getting done as well as the thinner parts, consider pounding your chicken thin next time to thin out the thicker parts.

Use an instant-read thermometer to ensure your chicken reaches an internal temperature of at least 165 degrees Fahrenheit.

Now you can enjoy with your favorite dipping sauce like my Copycat longhorn Steakhouse Ranch Dressing, which happens to be my favorite!

Leftover chicken tenders must be stored correctly in order for them to maintain their great taste the next day.

Store your leftover fried chicken strips in an airtight container or in a zip top freezer bag in the fridge.

You can also freeze them if you wish to reduce food waste. Flash freeze them on a baking sheet for one hour then put into the chosen container up to 3 months.

When you are ready to reheat them, it is best to let them thaw completely before you do.

Here is the best method for reheating your chicken fingers in the air fryer

The best option before you start reheating your chicken strips is to give them a chance to come to room temperature for a few minutes.

This allows the center of the chicken meat to warm up a bit before you put them in the air fryer.

To achieve the crispiest results, start with arranging your chicken strips in a single layer within the air fryer basket.

This allows the hot air to circulate evenly, ensuring each piece gets that perfect crunch.

Brushing your chicken pieces with a light coat of olive oil before air frying ensures you will end up with crispy skin and the most tasty chicken tenders.

Set your air fryer temperature to 350F and air fry chicken tenders for 10-15 minutes total.

Cooking times may vary based on the size and thickness of your chicken pieces.

Check them after 10 minutes as your model of air fryer may require less time and you do not want to burn them.

If they are still not heated through, return to the air fryer for 2-3 minutes for the optimum hot chicken tenders.

How to reheat your chicken strips if your air fryer is not available

Although the air fryer is a great way to reheat leftovers, sometimes it is tied up with other foods that you do not want to mix with chicken strips, or it is unavailable.

In that case, consider these other reheating methods for warming up your leftover chicken tenders.

These different ways of reheating still suggest to spray the tenders with oil to maintain the crispy outside.

Toaster Oven and Regular Oven:

While the air fryer is the ideal way to reheat your chicken tenders, you can effectively reheat them in a toaster oven or oven. A baking sheet with aluminum foil and a wire rack can mimic the air frying effect.

Make sure you follow the directions above for setting the temperature to 350F and spraying the chicken strips with cooking oil before reheating.

Microwave Oven for Smaller Pieces:

I personally do not think the microwave is the most preferred method, but it can be a quick solution, especially for smaller leftover chicken nuggets.

To reheat chicken nuggets, place them on a microwave-safe plate, cover with a paper towel, and heat in short intervals. Working with smaller pieces gives the chicken a chance to dry out quickly so heat them in short bursts of heat.

Tips, Substitutions and FAQs

  • Try brushing on some bbq sauce or teriyaki sauce before reheating your chicken strips to add extra flavor to them.
  • These instructions work with either breaded chicken tenders or unbreaded chicken tenders.
  • If you have different cuts of chicken such as legs, thighs or chicken wings, you will need to reheat them at a different temperature as there is a bone present.
  • These instructions also work whether you have an off-brand air fryer or a popular Ninja Foodi brand. Just set the temperature to match the required temperature and it will work out great!

How long should I preheat the air fryer before reheating chicken tenders? Preheating your air fryer is essential for optimal results. Generally, 3-5 minutes at the desired cooking temperature is sufficient.

Is it necessary to arrange chicken tenders in a single layer in the air fryer basket? Yes, placing the chicken tenders in a single layer ensures even cooking and helps achieve that crispy exterior. Avoid overcrowding for the best results.

What is the recommended internal temperature for reheated chicken tenders in the air fryer?  Aim for an internal temperature of at least 165 degrees Fahrenheit. Using an instant-read thermometer guarantees both safety and deliciousness.

Can I reheat frozen chicken tenders directly in the air fryer?  While it’s possible, thawing the tenders first is a great option that allows for more even reheating. If reheating from frozen, add a few extra minutes to the cooking time. This only applies to pre-cooked chicken tenders that you made yourself and froze, or ones from the grocery store. Make sure if you purchased a bag of chicken tenders that it says they are pre-cooked so you can adjust the cook time if they are not.

What if I have some French fries leftover with my chicken strips, can I reheat them together? Yes, they can go side by side in the air fryer for the same amount of time. I would also recommend spraying them with cooking spray also to ensure they also get crispy or brushing with oil.

Can I reheat multiple batches of chicken tenders consecutively in the air fryer? It’s recommended to allow the air fryer to cool down for a few minutes between batches to maintain consistent results.

Reheating chicken strips in the air fryer is not just about convenience; it can transform leftovers into a great meal a second time.

Experiment with different methods, spices, and dipping sauces to find your perfect combination.

When you follow these tips, you’ll discover the best way to achieve crispy perfection every single time, turning your leftover chicken tenders into a five-star experience.
