It is all no bake and amazing not only as a dessert itsself, but you will see can be transformed into many different yummy treats!

The unsweetened cocoa powder really delivers the dark chocolate flavor that chocolate lovers will recognize a mile away!

It is like chocolate pudding but with a stiffer consistency and an airy texture rather than heavy and creamy.

Keep reading to the tips section to find out ways you can transform this delicious chocolate mousse into other desserts to satisfy your sweet tooth!

Here is what you will need to make this easy chocolate mousse recipe!

  • Mascarpone Cheese (or softened to room temperature cream cheese)
  • Heavy Whipping Cream
  • Dark Cocoa Powder
  • Stevia (powdered or liquid)

Let’s make this quick chocolate mousse!

First get out a large mixing bowl and an electric mixer wether a stand mixer or a hand mixer with a whisk attachment.

If you have remembered to plan ahead, put your beater and bowl into the freezer for a few minutes.

This allows the cream to fluff up more and not be warmed up as much as it mixes.

You will need to make sure your mascarpone cheese is at room temperature for the best results to ensure you are able to whip it up well.

If you forget to set it out, you can easily put a STILL SEALED container into a bowl of hot water for 5 minutes.

Do not leave it for long or it may separate.

Put the mascarpone cheese in your bowl and mix at medium speed until it is fluffy and smooth with a creamy texture.

Now you will add in your unsweetened natural cocoa powder.and heavy cream.

It is best to add the cocoa powder to the bowl through a strainer.

Either pre-sift it, or just measure and add it through a strainer to prevent clumps.

Start out on a low speed and let it get mixed together so the regular cream doesn’t splash out of the bowl.

Once the cocoa powder is wettened, turn it up to high speed and mix for 2-3 minutes until you get stiff peaks!

You want to make sure to not mix it too long or it will start to separate which will ruin the creaminess you want in the final product!

Now you can put it into small bowls or serving dishes using an ice cream scoop, or get fancy like I did and pipe it into the dessert dishes like this!

If you are going to serve it later, make sure you put it in a medium bowl, preferrably glass so you can cover it with plastic wrap.

Alternately, make sure you keep it in an airtight container up to 4 days before it will not be as good.

Here are some extra tips and tricks to fancy up your mousse recipe!

  • Try piping the mousse into shot glasses and serve them on a tray for mini desserts as the end of a dinner party!
  • Turn it into a mocha mousse when you add in some instant coffee or espresso powder to the cocoa powder step.
  • Do you want to really amp up the dessert game with this sweet treat? Turn it into a chocolate mousse pie when you use the chocolate mixture as a pie filling! It is the perfect no bake dessert that you can make easy! Just get a cookie crust and fill it. Spread evenly and chill overnight. Its a good idea to top with fresh whipped cream to adorn the top before serving versus putting it on before.
  • The end result can always be spruced up when you add in some fresh fruit or fresh berries like raspberries or strawberries!
  • The texture is quite thick so it will hold up well as a frosting for any special occasion dessert! The rich chocolate flavor would be great piped onto a chocolate cake!
  • You can go simple and top with some sugar free milk chocolate chips or chop up a dark chocolate bar for some chocolate shavings.
  • If you use cream cheese instead of mascarpone cheese it will be a little less rich. Mascarpone cheese is creamier and does contain a higher fat content to create the fluffy texture you are wanting.
  • If you want to make it a vegan chocolate mousse, use dairy free cream cheese like Kite Hill, and then for the cream part, just fold in some dairy free cool whip after you have mixed the cocoa in. I recommend mixing it just for a minute and then getting out of the mixer. It may break down if you mix it too long!
  • Make it even more fancy when you take melted chocolate and drizzle it over the top before adding the shaved chocolate. Just make sure you melt it in a double boiler so it doesn’t seize up and so that it stays pourable. Boil water in a small saucepan and then put a large bowl over it and put the chocolate in the bowl. Slowly whisk until it is melted, then adorn your dessert!
  • I did not add it to mine, but you can add in some vanilla extract if you want that flavor added to it.
  • If you do not have a mixer, try this recipe in your food processor. Just make sure to scrape down the bowl often and stop processing once you reach medium peaks.
  • Make sure you choose heavy whipping cream with the highest percentage of fat for the best results!
