Keto Chocolate Almond Mocha Protein Smoothie

I am always looking for ways to incorporate more protein into my daily diet so a smoothie is the perfect solution.

Not only does it feature a nutritous way to have a coffee, but it has healthy fats and plenty of protein-rich ingredients to keep you feeling full for hours!

Its the perfect pick-me-up for your morning caffeine kick, a high-protein coffee-based smoothie that features a flavor profile that reminds me of a chocolate covered almond.

If you are any kind of a coffee lover, this is right up your alley!

This almond mocha smoothie is my sugar free version of a popular coffee combo flavor that you can find on the Smoothie King app.

I have taken the advantage of Smoothie King and its idea of a breakfast smoothie spiked with coffee and added my own spin on it.

My version features fiber and healthy fats without any added sugar!

What will I need to make my version of this coffee high protein almond mocha smoothie?

  • Half of a ripe avocado
  • Unsweetened Califia Farms Almond Milk
  • Cold Brew Coffee or chilled coffeer
  • Vanilla Extract or vanilla flavor from sugar free syrup
  • Almond Extract
  • Chocolate High Quality Protein Powder or any Keto Protein Blend of Powders
  • Cocoa Powder or cacao powder
  • 6-8 ice cubes; extra caffeine boost when you use frozen brewed coffee instead of water
  • Frozen Cauliflower Rice (optional but adds fiber and creaminess)

Ok, I am ready, how do I make this Keto Chocolate Almond Mocha Protein Smoothie?

You will need a blender to start you off right!

vitamix blender

If you do not have a high powered blender like a Vitamix, you will just need to blend a little longer and scrape the sides a few times more.

Always start out by adding in your liquid ingredients first!

Add your unsweetened almond milk, cold brew coffee, or a few shots of your choice of espresso, plus vanilla and almond extracts.

Blend well then add in your chocolate protein powder, cocoa powder, frozen cauliflower rice, plus the half of an avocado.

Blend again, slowly at first then turn the speed up to get everything blended smoothly.

Once you do not see anymore chunks of avocado or cauliflower rice, add in the frozen cubes of coffee or ice.

Now I serve mine up in a glass quart jar, top with some sugar free whipped cream plus a garnish of sliced almonds and sugar free chocolate chips.

What type of protein powder do you use?

Iconic Chocolate Truffle Protein Powder

I prefer Iconic Chocolate Protein or Iconic Mocha Protein Powder!

This is my favorite protein powder that I have used in other recipes of mine like my Keto Mocha Protein Cupcakes including in the frosting!

I also use the Iconic Vanilla Bean Protein Powder in my Gluten Free Vanilla Buttercream Frosting!

It contains 20 grams protein per scoop and is a fine grain so it blends very well!

This makes the most healthy protein shake as it is from grass fed cows without any additives.

The sweetness in this protein powder is thanks to the keto-friendly blend of monk fruit and stevia, natural alternatives to sugar.

All Iconic products contain zero grams of sugar and they never have artificial sweeteners or ingredients.

Are there ways to make this a vegan coffee mocha smoothie?

Yes, some easy swaps will make this vegan!

Switch out the protein powder I recommend with an organic plant-based protein powder instead!

If you need to swap out the nutmilk for another great option in this delicious drink, try Califia farms® oat milk.

Could I use this idea for different flavored coffee smoothies other than almond?

Oh my yes! Here are my ideas on how to jazz up your coffee high protein vanilla smoothie!

  • Pumpkin and coffee do taste wonderful together so turning this into a pumpkin coffee high protein shake is easy! Add in some seasonal spices like pumpkin spice or cinnamon and sub in extra vanilla extract instead of almond. When you add in the avocado, also add 2 tablespoons of organic pumpkin puree. It is the ultimate pumpkin indulgence! Using the entirely plant-based blend protein powder will make it a vegan pumpkin smoothie!
  • For all of you vanilla lovers, add the vanilla extract instead of almond extract. Also you should leave the cocoa powder out and sub in your favorite vanilla protein powder. Even a small scrape from a fresh vanilla bean will add to the vanilla flavor.
  • If you are unable to use an avocado or you do not have one, you can sub in 1/2 cup nonfat yogurt.
  • You can up the protein amount as well by considering adding in different kinds of protein like a tablespoon of almond butter, or peanut butter if you want!

Why do you put frozen cauliflower rice in your smoothie?

frozen cauliflower rice

I put this in as an optional ingredient, as you can make it successfully without it, but it does add to the nutritonal content.

It adds 1 gram of net carb to the the total and contains 35% of the daily value of vitamin C, 10% vitamin K, 7% folate, 6% vitamin B6 and 5% potassium.

Its a real multivitamin enhancer that you will not be able to taste.

The whey protein plus the coffee masks the taste really well.

It is also the perfect ingredient to add to the fiber blend in this smoothie with 1.5 grams of fiber.

You will also find that the cauliflower rice helps improve the creaminess of the smoothie since you need something to mimic the creaminess of the usual yogurt in standard smoothies.
