This 4 Ingredient Cocoa Powder Chocolate Mousse Recipe is the best of all chocolate desserts instead of another sweet quick treat!
It truly is one of my favorite desserts made with simple ingredients that you will also fall in love with, especially if it is your first time trying chocolate mousse made this way!

Equipment

  • Mixer or electric mixer
  • Large Bowl
  • Spatula or Scraper

Ingredients
  

  • 1 8oz Mascarpone Cheese room temperature
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream or sub coconut cream, thick only
  • 1 tsp liquid stevia use half for powdered stevia
  • 1 Tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder

Instructions
 

  • First get out a large mixing bowl and an electric mixer with a whisk attachment. Put your beater and bowl into the freezer for a few minutes.
  • Make sure your mascarpone cheese is at room temperature for best results. If you forget to set it out, you can easily put a STILL SEALED container into a bowl of hot water for 5 minutes.
  • Put the mascarpone cheese in the mixing bowl and whip at medium speed until fluffy and smooth with a creamy texture.
  • Add in your unsweetened natural cocoa powder and heavy cream. Start out on a low speed and let it get mixed together so the regular cream doesn't splash out of the bowl.
  • Once the cocoa powder is wettened, turn it up to high speed and mix for 2-3 minutes until you get stiff peaks.
  • Now you can put it into small bowls or serving dishes using an ice cream scoop, or get fancy like I did and pipe it into the dessert dishes.
  • To keep leftovers, put in a medium bowl, preferably glass so you can cover it with plastic wrap. Alternately keep in an airtight container up to 4 days.

What if I don't have a hand mixer, can I use something else?
If you do not have a mixer, try this recipe in your food processor. Just make sure to scrape down the bowl often and stop processing once you reach medium peaks.
Is there another sweetener I can use other than stevia if I want?
You can use sugar free powdered sugar instead of stevia if you wish. You will need to add in a little heavy cream to thin it out as the powdered sweetener absorbs moisture. Combine sugar free sweetener with the whipped cream instead of adding to the recipe with the mascarpone. This will help stabilize the whipped cream and not make it too dry. The other dry ingredients of cocoa powder will mix up well as listed in the recipe.
Is there a substitute for mascarpone cheese if I cannot find any?
Yes! Use cream cheese that has been brought to room temperature. Using cream cheese instead of mascarpone cheese will make it a little less rich. Mascarpone cheese is creamier and does contain a higher fat content to create the fluffy texture you are wanting so if you can find it I recommend using it.
Would this chocolate mousse work as a chocolate mousse pie?
Turn it into a chocolate mousse pie when you use the chocolate mixture as a pie filling! It is the perfect no bake dessert that you can make easy! Just use the crust from my No Bake Cannoli Pie Recipe and fill it. Spread evenly and chill overnight. Its a good idea to top with fresh whipped cream to adorn the top before serving versus putting it on before.
