It is a high-protein coffee-based smoothie that is the perfect pick-me-up in the afternoon featuring a flavor like a chocolate covered almond.

A popular coffee combo flavor that you can find on the Smoothie King app, my copycat version of their almond mocha smoothie is not only dairy free but sugar free as well!
Keep reading as I walk you through what you need to make this delicious breakfast smoothie with real nutrition and no added sugar, give you tips as well as substitutions and answer frequently asked questions you may have.
How is this copycat version better than Smoothie Kings, “King of Coffee” Smoothies?
If you are wanting to take advantage of Smoothie King drive-thru to pick up one of their coffee smoothies, whether you choose almond mocha or the Keto champ coffee, then consider making your own for better quality ingredients.
Coming in at 400 calories, 12g of fat, 45g carbs and 31g protein it is a sugar blast that can be avoided when you make it yourself.
There is not only 33g of sugar in their version, but they also use Gladiator® protein powder, which is dairy whey blend based, contains natural flavors, as well as sucralose and unlisted ingredients.
In order to make this healthy protein shake dairy free and sugar free, you must look to proteins other than whey protein that are not derived from milk sources.
Instead of looking to an entirely plant-based blend that may contain soy, beans or plant thickeners, choose a fitness-focused blend that only contains four ingredients from grass fed beef.

Equip Brand Prime Protein Powder is a keto-friendly blend free from gluten, dairy, whey, soy, hormones, antibiotics, fillers, artificial sweeteners and preservatives.
It contains collagen and gelatin which provides a complete source of protein that you would find in a 4oz. steak.

It contains 1 grams fat, 3 grams carbs, 20 grams protein, along with vitamin B12, Calcium, and Potassium.

What you need to make this coffee high protein almond mocha smoothie

- Half of a ripe avocado (fresh or frozen)
- Unsweetened Califia Farms Almond Milk
- Cold Brew Coffee or chilled coffee
- Vanilla Extract or vanilla flavor from sugar free syrup
- Almond Extract
- Chocolate or Vanilla High Quality Protein Powder or any Keto Protein Blend of Powders
- Cocoa Powder or cacao powder
- 6-8 ice cubes; extra caffeine boost when you use frozen brewed coffee instead of water
- Frozen Cauliflower Rice (optional but adds fiber and creaminess)
Let’s make this Keto Chocolate Almond Mocha Protein Smoothie
You will need a blender to start you off right!
If you do not have a high-powered blender like a Vitamix, you will just need to blend a little longer and scrape the sides a few times more.

Always start out by adding in your liquid ingredients first!
Add your unsweetened almond milk, cold brew coffee, or a few shots of your choice of espresso, plus vanilla and almond extracts.
Blend well then add in your chocolate protein powder, cocoa powder, frozen cauliflower rice, plus the half of an avocado.
Blend again, slowly at first then turn the speed up to get everything blended smoothly. Once you do not see any more chunks of avocado or cauliflower rice, add in the frozen cubes of coffee or ice.
Now I serve mine up in a glass quart jar, top with some sugar free whipped cream plus a garnish of sliced almonds and sugar free chocolate chips or a drizzle of my sugar free chocolate syrup.

You need to make it fresh as it does not keep well. If you need to plan ahead so your morning smoothie is made quick, keep the frozen items together in one freezer bag and the liquid ingredients in a jar.
You just need to put the two together and blend for a quick, high protein smoothie!

Tips, Substitutions, and FAQs
- Pumpkin and coffee do taste wonderful together so turning this into a pumpkin coffee high protein shake is easy! Add in some seasonal spices like pumpkin spice or cinnamon and sub in extra vanilla extract instead of almond. When you add in the avocado, also add 2 tablespoons of organic pumpkin puree. It is the ultimate pumpkin indulgence! Using the entirely plant-based blend protein powder will make it a vegan pumpkin smoothie!
- For all of you vanilla lovers, add the vanilla extract instead of almond extract. Also, you should leave the cocoa powder out and sub in extra vanilla protein powder. Even a small scrape from a fresh vanilla bean will add to the vanilla flavor.
- If you are unable to use an avocado or you do not have one, you can sub in 1/2 cup nonfat yogurt.
- You can up the protein amount as well by considering adding in different kinds of protein like a tablespoon of almond butter, or peanut butter if you want!
- Make this a Coffee High Protein Vanilla Shake by replacing the chocolate protein powder with a vanilla one and omitting the cocoa powder.
- As with any of my recipes, if you are on a lower calorie diet like Weight Watchers for weight loss, then use nonfat milk to reduce the fat content. Non-fat milk is lower in fat but does contain lactose which your body uses as sugar so keep that in mind.
A few tips to make this smoothie ultra smooth and icy without needing extra ice!

- Make sure you freeze some brewed coffee in ice cube trays ahead of time.
- Chop up your avocado and freeze the chunks ahead of time as well.
- Make sure you add in liquid ingredients first.

For one serving of food, or one shake prepared as I have with the cauliflower rice has the following macros.
- 268 Calories
- 16g carbs
- 10g fiber
- 6 net grams carbs
- 15g fat
- 21g protein
These nutritional facts are only for general nutrition advice. You must figure out the exact amounts found in the protein powder you use and the kind of milk you use to get the macros.
Is there a way to change this recipe up and make it a fruity smoothie? Yes! You can switch the coffee out with a fruit juice blend, omit the cocoa powder and use regular ice cubes instead of the coffee cubes. Proceed with the rest of the recipe as stated. So many possibilities are available with this option. Try any of these different juice blends: apple pineapple juice blend, white grape lemon juice blend, pear juice blend, papaya juice blend, apple blueberry juice blend, kiwi apple juice blend. You can reduce the carbs from the fruit blends if you use half coconut water for half of the juice. This adds in some great natural electrolytes.

Are there ways to make this a vegan coffee mocha smoothie? Yes, some easy swaps will make this vegan! Switch out the protein powder I recommend with an organic plant-based protein powder instead! If you need to swap out the nut milk for another great option in this delicious drink, try Califia Farms® oat milk.

Why do you put frozen cauliflower rice in your smoothie? I put this in as an optional ingredient, as you can make it successfully without it, but it does add to the nutritional content. It adds 1 gram of net carb to the total and contains 35% of the daily value of vitamin C, 10% vitamin K, 7% folate, 6% vitamin B6 and 5% potassium. It’s a real multivitamin enhancer that you will not be able to taste. The protein powder plus the coffee masks the taste really well. It is also the perfect ingredient to add to the fiber blend in this smoothie with 1.5 grams of fiber. You will also find that the cauliflower rice helps improve the creaminess of the smoothie since you need something to mimic the creaminess of the usual yogurt in standard smoothies.
