tomato paste left after using a few tablespoons
I have this much left after using two tablespoons.

If you’re like me, you probably have used only a few tablespoons of tomato paste for a recipe and now your left with an unused portion. But no worries! There are lots of ways to make your leftover tomato paste useful again! Here are some ideas for how to use up that tomato paste…

  • Make some homemade “keto ketchup” with my easy to follow recipe here!
  • Use it as a marinade for grilled meats and vegetables (especially good with grilled onions). Just mix together 2 tablespoons each olive oil and red wine vinegar with 1 tablespoon tomato paste, then add seasonings like salt & pepper to taste before putting it all over your food items before cooking them on the grill. The result will be juicy grilled veggies/meats with delicious flavor from both smokey charring plus sweet-spicy notes from the marinade itself.

My quickest way to preserve it is in the freezer!

tomato paste in a freezer bag with score marks for easy portioning
I gently scored one inch squares for easy portioning without thawing!

Just place all of the remaining paste in a freezer bag. Push out all of the air. Gently score into 1 inch squares. When you need some for a recipe just break off a square! Let it cook in the recipe as it melts fast.

Use it to make tomato paste cheese spread.

To make a spreadable cheese, add the tomato paste to softened cream cheese. Add in some onion and garlic to make it savory, or add a little cayenne pepper and paprika for heat. Or maybe you’re feeling adventurous: try curry powder! It’s always good to have something on hand that can be used in so many different ways.

I hope this has helped you figure out what you are going to do with the leftover tomato paste so it doesn’t go to waste!

You could also make KETO PIZZA with it or some KETO KETCHUP!
