Equipment

  • large saucepan
  • 2 quart jars
  • Wooden Spoon
  • Whisk

Ingredients

  • 8 bags TAZO Chai Tea
  • 3 tbsp keto brown sugar
  • 4 tsp vanilla extract
  • 4 cups boiling water

Instructions

  • First you will need to get out a large pot that will hold your black tea concentrate. Boil up 4 cups of water in your large pot.
  • Once it comes to a boil remove from the heat and put your TAZO chai tea bags into the hot water. Let them steep for 8-10 minutes until the water is very dark. Do not steep them for much longer or it may become bitter tasting.
  • Now remove the tea bags and use a wooden spoon to press them against the side of the pot to squeeze out as much of the tea as possible.
  • Add in the keto brown sugar, or monk fruit sweetener to the boiling hot tea. Whisk it up well so the sweetener dissolves. You can of course leave it unsweetened if you want so you can customize your sweetness when you make your cup of chai.
  • Let it cool for at least 10 minutes on the counter at room temperature before pouring into a lidded quart jar and putting in the fridge overnight like you would a cold brew coffee. If you do not have a large quart jar, any airtight container you can pour from will work.
  • Fill a quart jar 1/3 of the way with ice cubes. Add in half of your cooled chai concentrate and half of your milk of choice.
  • If you want to enjoy it warm, just add half concentrate and half milk in a saucepan and heat.

Notes

  • Add a shot of espresso to your cup of iced chai latte to make it a dirty chai latte! This adds an interesting twist and a depth of smoky flavor. Instead of shots of espresso, you can always use a 1/2 cup of brewed coffee.
  • If you do not want to use unsweetened almond milk as your milk you could use any of the following plant-based milk: Oat milk, soy milk, or cashew milk. Any dairy milk would work too like raw cow’s milk, whole milk or skim milk.
  • If you are trying to stay away from artificial sweeteners, you can sweeten your chai recipes with one of the natural sweeteners like maple syrup or honey.
  • If you are a diverse tea drinker, you can of course substitute the black tea for your own favorite tea. Maybe try a herbal tea for a caffiene free chai.
