Equipment

  • Small saucepan or frothing pitcher
  • Handheld Frother, Immersion Blender, or Whisk

Ingredients

  • 1 part heavy whipping cream or the coconut cream top from a can of coconut milk
  • 1 part unsweetened almond milk OR favorite non-dairy creamer
  • 1 cup cold brew coffee, or chilled coffee
  • 1/2 cup ice cubes
  • 1 tsp favorite extract: vanilla, almond, caramel OR favorite flavored coffee syrup Optional
  • 1/2 tsp liquid stevia or pinch of powdered stevia Optional

Instructions

  • To start, you have already cooled your choice of prepared coffee. You can purchase cold brew coffee from the store, or brew up some coffee with your espresso machine or French press and chill overnight.
  • Get out your glass for your iced cup of coffee and fill 3/4 of the way with ice. Pour your coffee over the ice in your chosen glass.
  • Now the next part we will construct your base for the cold foam.
  • I chose to create my own coffee creamer which is made of part cream and part milk. You can choose to just use this homemade creamer instead of the unsweetened almond milk listed or sub in some purchased non-dairy creamer.
  • Measure out one part heavy cream or coconut cream in the quart jar.
  • Now top with the milk or creamer you chose plus extract and sweetener if you want. The important part to remember is that you want it to be very cold milk to start with so the fat in the cream froths up well.
  • Choose how you will make your thick foam. I chose to use my handheld immersion blender, but you can use a hand held frother wand too.
  • I poured approximately 1/2 cup of my cold foam blend into my frother pitcher. You can of course use a wide mouth jar or small saucepan.
  • Turn the immersion blender to high speed and tilt your pitcher or saucepan to get it frothed better. Continue until you have made enough air bubbles to increase the volume at least by half.
  • Start to pour your cold foam you created onto the top of the drink slowly.
  • If you find yourself with leftover cold foam you can store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for a short period. You can always froth it up again if you want. It will keep up to a week combined.

Notes

  • You can change up the flavor of your cold foam when you choose different flavors of creamers to add to your recipe.
  • If you're a fan of classic Starbucks vanilla sweet cream cold brew, add in some vanilla extract or other flavorings to transform your cold foam into a vanilla cream. A dash of vanilla extract or vanilla bean paste can infuse your foam with a warm, comforting vanilla flavor that elevates your coffee to a whole new level.
  • Change up the flavor of the cold foam from a vanilla sweet cream cold foam to an almond or caramel one just by simply changing the extract you use.
  • Don't limit this delicious cold foam to only cold drinks or iced beverages. It works great to top hot lattes also. I prefer cold foam on the top of the coffee sometimes as it is an easy way to cool off my coffee or latte so I can drink it right away.
  • Instead of whip cream for your hot chocolate, try some of this cold foam!
  • Don't forget that this cold foam is also great over a pink drink like from Starbucks. Make up a mug of Starbucks Passion tea then pour it over ice for an iced tea drink. Top with your cold foam!
  • If you want to make some homemade vanilla syrup, all you need to do is make a simple syrup with half sweetener and half water. Boil then simmer to dissolve the sweetener. For best results, use a granulated sweetener with bulk to follow the half sweetener and half water rule.
